Geometry, Mathematics and Textile Weaving Formula
By VIGIL Arts and Crafts Training Center
1. Geometry:
Geometry is the branch of mathematics concerned with the relations and characteristics of points, lines, surfaces, between other dimensions and relative positions.
2. Textiles:
Textiles
are directly referred to fabrics that made by any methods of weaving.
3. Mathematics:
Mathematics are concerned with the abstract science of
number, quantity, figures, formulas and space.
Fashion
Designing
These three
branches are combined in the field of Fashion designing along with the branch
of garment designing. The fabrics are made by
different methods such as weaving, crocheting, knitting etc.
Application and Use:
For weaving the fabrics, the branch of
textile mathematics are essential. It directly influences the fabric thickness,
strength, durability, colour, weaving methods etc.
Formulas Used in Textile Weaving:
A. Direct
Yarn count = (W/l) / (L/w)
B. Indirect
Yarn count: N = (L/w) / (W/l)
Where, N
is the yarn count,
W
is the weight of a yarn sample,
l
is the unit of length,
L
is the length of the sample
w
is the unit of weight of system.
