Rajasthan traditional embroidery techniques follows a simple, elegant as well as traditional approach in knitting eye-catching designs. Rajasthan, also known as the “Land of Kings”, is well-known for it’s culture, monuments and garments.

In Rajasthan, the traditional clothing attire for women is ghagra, choli [Kurthi or Kanchli], and odhni. They are usually decorated with mirror work, cut-work, beads and sequins. Dhoti and angarkha, or pyjama-kurta are the traditional wear for men. The Rajasthan embroidery shows its cultural heritage and used widely in sarees, lehengas, and dupattas. Also it is used to decorate cushions, table-spreads etc.

The unique design pattern made the embroidery a global recognition.

Rajasthan embroidery have many sub-types as follows:

[i] Jaipur embroidery

[ii] Kota Doria embroidery

[iii] Barmer embroidery

[iv] Sanganer embroidery

Material/Fabric:

The embroidery work usually done on cotton, silk or velvet .

Pattern:

The embroidery patterns are of geometrical, mythological or floral.

Theory:

The basic theory followed is that the stich should be match with the type of fabric.
